Year 4

Welcome to Year 4, our teacher is Mrs Smalley and our teaching assistant is Mrs Larthwell, we are a very happy team.

We are continuing our journey through the juniors, with many of our routines similar to those in Year 3. This Autumn our first topic is Potions. We are learning all about solids, liquids and gases which involves planning lots of hands on investigations. Our class story is The Witches by Roald Dahl and we look at some Shakespeare as we read some of the play Macbeth - looking at those witches around their cauldron! Children are making their own potions - so we hope our classroom is not full of toads by the end of the project! Later in the term we look at Misty Mountains and Windy Rivers - so there will be lots of exploring to do, then we move back in time to 1066! We are a very busy class!

In Maths we follow the White Rose schemes of learning using manipulatives for concrete learning. We extend our learning with problem solving and reasoning questions to ensure a depth of understanding. In the Autumn term we start by learning about Place Value before moving on to addition and subtraction. We are also busy learning our important times tables - we have lots of fun using TTRockstars, moving along to Supermovers and written calculations.

In PE this term we are learning lots of new skills including mini golf and athletics.
