Year 4

Welcome to Year 4 where our teacher is Miss Rowlatt and Mrs Anderson is our Teaching Assistant.

We pursue National Curriculum objectives through well-chosen Cornerstones projects which make each term exciting  learning experiences! We learn by observing, listening, exploring, experimenting and asking questions. We know that learning is not always easy, but we understand that when we are resilient we can overcome any problems with the encouragement and support of our friends and teachers and we enjoy having a challenge to extend our understanding.

Maths

In Maths we follow the White Rose schemes of learning using manipulatives for concrete learning. We extend our learning through reasoning and problem solving alongside fluency to ensure a depth of understanding.  We are also busy learning our important times tables - we have lots of fun with TTRockstars, moving along to Supermovers as well as showing our understanding through written calculations.

English

In our class we love to read! We all take turns to be reading ambassadors which means that we read with our friends, help others to choose interesting books that they will enjoy, and even select new books to add to our ever expanding book case! We take part in individual, group and whole class reading activities to share our understanding of a range of texts; the VIPERS approach really helps us to develop our skills. We are lucky enough to have a new library space so that we can choose non fiction works to read, which help us to explore the world around us. Discovering new ideas and interesting vocabulary helps us in our writing too. We love to explore new words through our projects and we are great at using a dictionary or a thesaurus to make our writing more interesting. We enjoy sharing our writing with our friends and take great pride in our work.

Projects

Our projects are:

Autumn Term - Ancient Civilisation

Spring Term - Misty Mountains Windy Rivers

Summer Term - Invasion

Our projects are varied and exciting and cover all areas of the curriculum in a creative, interesting way allowing us to have the confidence to explore new ideas and give us lots of opportunities to discover new ideas. Every day is a new learning adventure for us to explore.
