Huttoft Primary School

Science

Legal Framework

The science programmes of study from the national curriculum form the roots or the science curriculum at Huttoft Primary and Nursery school.

The aims for science ensure all pupils:

  • Develop scientific knowledge and conceptual understanding through the specific disciplines of biology, chemistry and physics;
  • Develop understanding of the nature, processes and methods of science through different types of science enquiries that help them to answer scientific enquiries that help them to answer scientific questions and about the world around them;
  • Are equipped with the scientific knowledge required to understand the uses and implications of science, today and in the future.

Intent

At Huttoft, we understand that science teaches children how to make sense of the world around them. Through their growing understanding of, children learn to appreciate the contribution made by many cultures to the development and application of science. At Huttoft we have adopted the Cornerstones Curriculum 22 for science which ensures that our curriculum is fully sequenced and connected. Our projects ensure that children build and sequence their knowledge as they go through school.
